Spiritual Power of Faith
Lesson  1  of   3

The study of the 12 Spiritual Powers, sometimes called spiritual faculties, is a unique contemplation of the Divine as absolute support to live and to thrive. Charles Fillmore may have had hints of these spiritual faculties in his study of mystics such as Teresa of Avilla, or in the Hindu writings, but Charles discerned through a metaphysical interpretation of the Biblical stories of Jesus calling upon 12 disciples. This is a discernment practice we all would be wise to invest in because there is an evolving awareness to be discovered, integrated, and applied especially now…when faced daily with many reasons to fear what is occurring on the planet and to its creatures, and the water, the air. The human species is called to realize the spiritual power of faith as the principle for our greatest potential.

Whereas all my studies have suggested that that which is God is everywhere present, and whereas my contemplation and practice of the 12 Powers have proved to be revealed active in all creation, Faith it seems is different. Consider that power itself is obvious as that which is behind all energy–and the scientists indicate energy is everywhere present throughout the universe.  The metaphysical understanding of faith is embedded in an experience portrayed by Jesus as he specifically points to the consciousness in his disciple Simon who became known as Peter.

How do they see him, and what do they understand about him? It is Simon bar Jonah’s response that is brought to the disciples’ attention–and to ours. Unity minister Rev. Jim Rosemergy describes this experience in his book, An Autobiography of a Christian Heretic, as one of Jesus pointing to the consciousness that has occurred in Simon

Simon was spiritually aware of what Jesus had realized within, Oneness with God. The Sacred Human born of water is also the temple of the Living God.

"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Mathew 16:16

Unity has represented Simon Peter, specifically Peter as the awakened consciousness, as the disciple in which faith is understood. Faith being the rock upon which the inner temple, the truest church, is built.  Faith is our spiritual power of awareness. A “... assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Hope is always for the potential.

Hebrew 11:1

Conviction of what is yet to be seen is a principle of the Universe.  We live and move and have our being in the Living God and it is designed as a principle of conviction in what is yet to be seen–it cannot keep creating what is yet to be seen.  And neither can we!  Together in our study of faith, we are realizing the power to create yet unseen solutions to today’s challenges in cocreating a sustainable way of living on our beloved planet Earth.

Faith, trust, belief: these words are so often used to understand an activity of mind and spirit and can be so intertwined in our lives. In each thought is the qualifier: faith in God; trust in someone or something; belief in ideas and more. Do you notice that faith is an activity of mind and heart, that ability to link to God's awareness, or other people, places, and things? We often hear an expression that someone is faithful and full of faith.
