Special Sevices & Rituals

Sacred rituals that honor Mother Earth have been practiced across cultures for generations, each rooted in the understanding that all life is interconnected. These time‑honored traditions invite us to slow down, listen deeply, and remember our place within the larger web of creation. Whether through mindful movement, intentional prayer, or simple acts of gratitude, these practices help us align with the natural rhythms that sustain and guide us.

The principle of omnipresent omniscience of the Divine ensures that rituals become more than ritualistic practices—they become conscious pathways to spiritual awakening. Unity teaches that the Divine expresses through all of nature, and by engaging in sacred practices with presence and reverence, we open ourselves to that indwelling wisdom. This section explores rituals that nurture harmony, restore balance, and deepen our relationship with the Earth, allowing us to participate in the sacred flow of life with clarity and purpose.

Turning Of The Seasons: Four Directions Ritual
A simple experiential moving prayer, ideal for individuals, ministries, and intergenerational use on solstices and equinoxes.
Earth Day Month Give-away
The month of April offers 30 days for consciousness building and practical service activities. Unity of Traverse City in Michigan renews their Earth Covenanting statement as a community and shares sapling trees native to their bioregion to be planted on their land, or elsewhere. Each sapling includes instructions and appreciation. Not everyone chooses one, but others commit to planting more!
Eco-Advent
Individuals and ministries that observe the four Sundays of Advent leading to Christmas have an opportunity to include mention of creation. The evolving landscape on the Advent table starts with stones, crystals and bones, followed by plants on the 2nd Sunday. Animals the 3rd, and humans the 4th. The evolution of all that is required to be in place for the birth of Christ consciousness is emphasized. Of course: promote in advance the idea of reducing and reusing resources throughout the holiday season! For webinar info and resource materials contact kathyharwoodlong@gmail.com
Honoring Leaders with Earth Friendly Action
Giving a living, eco-friendly, acknowledgement to volunteers, board members, etc, symbolizes the individual’s service and life giving and continuing on in the life of the ministry. It also models an approach that is restorative to the earth instead of using more resources for a gift that will likely be one more “thing” to figure out what to do with!
Earth Month Movie Series
Unity on Cape Cod, MA, shows environmental films every Friday night in April to celebrate Earth Day and to inform people about the many environmental issues that we are facing. Guest speakers are invited to lead discussions following the films, as they draw more of an audience and often will promote the event to their groups. All the programs are free though donations are welcomed.
