For the next 3-7 days, make a note of all creatures that visit you – physically, in dreams, photographs, etc...

Note: If you are not mobile, or want to do this immediately, you can browse through a wildlife magazine, watch nature TV, or go through the alphabet listing animals that begin with each letter.

Is there one that appears repeatably? Is there one that stands out to you? One that somehow catches your attention in a different way? Perhaps it’s startling or perhaps it simply elicits a certain warmth. Perhaps you are drawn to it or repelled by it.

That reaction is like the ringing of your phone. It has something to say to you and it is trying to get your attention.
Contemplate the characteristics of that animal. Is it seasonal in appearance? Is it known for its sound? Does it live in a group or singularly? What and how does it eat? Where does it live? These are all whispers of wisdom for your soul’s journey. Ask your new messenger whatever is on your heart or mind. Then listen. With both your ears and your eyes and your heart.

Take the animal’s image into meditation. Imagine the animal sitting on your lap or next to you.
Consider how this animal would approach the situation or decision. If it is challenging, how does that animal behave when challenged? Does it run? Does it make itself larger or make threatening noises? Does it attack the problem head on? Does it play possum?

If it is about connection, how does your animal whisperer connect? Do they live singularly or in a “tribe”? Do they mate for life, or do they procreate and move on?
"Love is not primarily a relationship to a specific person; it is an attitude, an orientation of character that determines the relatedness of a person to the world as a whole.”

The Art of Loving, Erich Fromm notes
If it is about direction, consider how this animal travels. Are they migratory? Do they sleep through tough seasons until the world is ready for them to reappear?

"As we come into the true understanding of ourselves and of our own inner world, we become able to grasp more and more fully the phenomenon of the outer world; and so we turn within for the light.”

The Metaphysical Bible Dictionary
When you are complete with your meditation, silently send a thank you to that animal. And in the days to come, watch for an opportunity to express your gratitude. Just as that animal provided you with wisdom for your soul’s journey, you too, will have the opportunity to help your guide. It may be in your choice of food. It may be in planting a garden. It may be in advocacy. It may be taking a thorn from a lion’s paw.

You may also want to play with studying the metaphysical meaning of an animal in the Bible. What lessons does this bring you? What can you do to connect with the Oneness of life expressed through that animal and that idea? Here are two examples:

Antelope - Deuteronomy 14:5, Isaiah 51:20

In Hebrew, Tabitha means beautiful, antelope. The metaphysical meaning of Tabitha: a grace, lightness, and symmetry of soul and body that are of Spirit

Bear - 1 Samuel 17:34-37, 2 Kings 2:24, Isaiah 11:7, Daniel 7:5, Revelation 13:2

"The Bear is a constellation or group of stars called Ursa Major but commonly known as the Great Bear. The Arcturus mentioned is one of the brightest stars in the northern heavens, and is in the constellation Boötes."

Job 9:9; 38:32
Bear may be guiding us to see the details of the bigger picture and how our collective single acts of wisdom in how we are using our resources. In God’s question to Job about establishing dominion in the earth, our wise answer has to be “no.” It’s not about dominion, but rather cooperation.

As we progress and unfold in spiritual consciousness until our mind becomes capable of containing the remote revelations of truth, which the stars in Job stand for, we shall become able to comprehend all things and nothing will be impossible to us.
