Myrtle Filmore noted that due to our free will God Itself can’t force a person’s highest good upon them; rather each person must choose the path we take.

"The power of will consists of desire, choice, commitment, and willingness."
Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett: Divine Audacity
She explains that desire is natural to us as extensions of the Divine. Desire opens us up to possibility while choice is taking agency over what we desire and even perhaps releasing certain desires. As we spiritualize our will we reorient toward spiritual motivation rather than materialistic or sensory motivation. Commitment involves resolving to follow through on the choice. Willingness is a state of consciousness that releases resistance and allows room for flow, action, and manifestation.

The key to honing our use of the will faculty is to find a balance that is neither willfulness nor passivity. Spiritualized willing is not passive. It’s not about sighing and agreeing to just accept what comes.

Surrendering to divine will is not weak. It is not the same as giving up. It creates an opening for Divine Ideas. Divine Ideas are the most powerful things in the universe.

Sharon Connors, Adventures in Resilience
Spiritualized willing is about declaring and claiming. One of Unity’s foundational teachers, H. Emilie Cady, wrote, “Do you will it and not languidly desire it? Are you determined to have that executed which you are satisfied is God’s will for you?” This is energetically akin to the “Let there be light!” type statements in Genesis. In this context let is not asking or beseeching, but rather strongly declaring, “Let my true will, guided by wisdom, grounded in love, be done!”

A spiritual superpower combo equation is Wisdomn+ Imagination + Will. These three spiritual faculties in combination generate amazing things in our lives and our world.
We let our power of Imagination stir up creativity and possibility, then we consider the Wisdom of the new creation we are imagining, and once we feel solid that it is a good thing we deploy our power of Will to make it manifest. However, deploying Imagination and Will without the guidance of Wisdom often leads to miscreations or messes in our personal lives and our world.
What’s needed now to help heal our world are more and more of us deploying wise and wonderful imagination and will.

"Now, after centuries of experiencing the planet as being a collection of objects for scientific analysis and commercial use, we must ask: where can we find the resources for a reevaluation of our activities? How can we obtain the psychic energies needed to disengage from our plundering industrial economy?

We might describe the challenge before us by the following sentence. The historical mission of our times is to reinvent the human – at the species level, with critical reflection, within the community of life-systems, in a time-developmental context, by means of story and shared dream experience."

Cultural historian, Thomas Berry: The Great Work
Understanding - God is supreme knowing. That in man which comprehends is understanding; it knows and comprehends in wisdom. Its comparisons are not made in the realm of form but in the realm of ideas. It knows how to accomplish things. Spiritual discernment reveals that knowledge and intelligence are auxiliary to understanding.
There are two ways of getting understanding. One is by following the guidance of Spirit that dwells within, and the other is to go blindly ahead and learn by hard experience.
Intellectual understanding of Truth is a tremendous step in advance of sense consciousness, and its possession brings a temptation to use for selfish ends the wisdom and power thereby revealed.
Spiritual understanding is the quickening of the Spirit within. Spiritual understanding is the ability of the mind to apprehend and realize the laws of thought and the relation of ideas one to another.
